'Can you remember back to a time and place when fairy tales, fables, and storytelling would ignite your imagination and set your senses on a rollercoaster of emotions? An experience that connected you to people and places and incited wonder for the past, present and future?'
The Once Upon A Time Project aims to reignite this ancient ritual, the love of language and literacy, through creative play-based improvisation. The project evokes communication, sparks imagination, creativity, and the expression of stories; verbally, physically (through role play) and in written form.
The simple opening line of a story embarks the participants on an enriched journey of endless possibilities catering to diverse ranges of learning styles of all abilities.
The ‘Once Upon a Time Project’ is embedded in a social context, it supports the learning principles and practices across the Early Years Learning Framework emphasising the use of storytelling, rhyming, reading and listening, singing and yarning activities.
At compulsory education age this project supports the shaping of language which helps children to understand themselves and provides a platform for building a sense of identity and connection to peers. This is central to social and emotional development. These fundamental elements are consistent with the broad learning outcomes of the K – 10- Australian Curriculum Framework.
The Project Further supports the National Quality Framework utilised in Early Years and After School childcare programs through its contribution to Quality Area 1 – Educational program and practices. This fun, creative activity builds skills and strategies for positive speaking and listening, peer to peer interactions.
This simple resource is available with or without imagination kits and introductory story time sessions can be booked via Ed.U.Play.
